Catholic secondary school Sainte Anne - FRANCE

Our school is located in a small town of about 12000 inhabitants , by the sea. It is also located near a larger city, Brest, which is permanently developing its maritime role on a regional, national and european scale. Many firms and  associations are closely linked to their maritime environment and offer a large number of jobs. Sciences play a major role in many working fields. Plougastel Daoulas is a residential area and offers our teenagers a large variety of attractions in sports and culture. Most of our families don't suffer from unemployement.
Concerning our pupils, more and more of them have learning difficulties and develop a serious lack of motivation at school.
This school year, 6 pupils (out of 475) who have special needs are helped by an adult during the lessons. About 25 others, that is about 6% of the pupils, benefit from a special individual project because of special education needs like dyslexia, dyscalculia or dysorthografia...
We have also decided to offer tutorial lessons to those who need more help. It concerns about 20 pupils in year 7, 15 in year 8, 15 in year 9 and 20 in year 10. They work in smaller groups and doing so, they develop  a special relationship with the teacher who is in charge of them. Some of them really enjoy it and gain confidence but others still don't see the point and have the feeling that they waste their time.
Working on a Comenius project linked to their daily environment could be an opportunity to make them create things, observe, meet professional partners and visit firms. That is the reason why we are really eager to give our school a European dimension, using English as a real tool to communicate and discover new cultures. It will also strengthten the teachers' ability to work together on a special project and the opportunity to witness how our European colleagues work with their classes.
