“Gheorghe Lazăr” National Pedagogical College was founded October 9th, 1871 as “The Pedagogical School for Boys”.

For the past 142 years it has been the most important and valuable educational institution in Transylvania (Romania), training highly qualified primary school and kindergarten teachers.

The college was named after Gheorghe Lazăr, Romanian intellectual who contributed decisively to the creation of the Romanian state-funded education.

More than 35% of the school’s graduates were or are now nationally and internationally renowned personalities: researchers, academicians, professors at famous universities, actors, composers, conductors (music), soloists at the Munich Opera, La Scala Opera in Milan, the Sydney Opera, etc. Romania’s former Prime Minister was also a professor at “Gheorghe Lazăr” National Pedagogical College.

We have 700 pupils, 41 teachers, 22 classrooms, 5 science labs, 2 computer science labs, 1 AEL lab, psycho-pedagogical and professional counselling services, logopedic consulting and therapy, methodology support & services (Romanian, French, English, Hard Sciences, Social Sciences, Sports, Pedagogy), gym, library, school botanical park, outdoor sports facility, events room, the Students’ Council Room, “Educatia 2000+” Educational Centre and Phare Programs Regional Resource Centre, medical school services, school dental services, a 200-place hostel, canteen, broadband and wireless internet available throughout the school perimeter.
